This romantic English painter was born in July 1789, in Haydon Bridge, UK. He was celebrated for the dramatic paintings where Martin will populate them with fantastic figures winding up on menacing landscapes to impose a rich and melodramatic storytelling in all his artworks.
He was apprenticed by his father to a coachbuilder in Newcastle upon Tyne to learn heraldic painting, but the idea was later cancelled, and he was placed instead under Boniface Musso, an Italian artist, father of the enamel painter Charles Muss. Master and apprentice moved from Newcastle to London in 1806, where he supported himself by giving drawing lessons, and by painting in watercolours, Chinese ink and glass —his only surviving painted plate is now in a private collection in England. During his free time, the artist would concentrate in the study of perspective and architecture.
Martin sent his first oil painting to the Royal Academy in 1810, but it was not displayed. A year later, he would send the same painting once again, when it was hung under the title A landscape Composition. Thereafter, he produced a succession of large exhibited oil paintings: some landscapes, but more usually grand biblical themes inspired by the Old Testament. His landscapes have the ruggedness of the Northumberland crags, while some authors claim that his apocalyptic canvasses, such as - The Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah -, show his familiarity with the forges and ironworks of the Tyne Valley and display his intimate knowledge of the Old Testament.

In the years of the Regency from 1812 onwards there was a fashion for such ‘sublime’ paintings. Martin's first break came at the end of a season at the Royal Academy, where his first major sublime canvas - Sadak in Search of the Waters of Oblivion - had been hung but then ignored. He brought it home, only to find there a visiting card from William Manning MP, who wanted to buy it from him. Patronage propelled Martin's career.

This promising career was interrupted by the deaths of his father, mother, grandmother and young son in a single year. Another distraction was William -his eldest brother who was an inventor- frequently asking him to draw up plans for his inventions, and whom he always indulged with help and money. In 1816 Martin finally achieved public acclaim with –Joshua Commanding the Sun to Stand Still upon Gibeon -, even though it broke many of the conventional rules of composition.
Martin from about 1827 to 1828 had turned away from painting and became more involved with engineering plans and inventions. He developed a fascination with solving London's water and sewage problems, involving the creation of the Thames embankment, containing a central drainage system. His plans were visionary and formed the basis for later engineers' designs.
During the last four years of his life, Martin was engaged in a trilogy of large paintings of biblical subjects. However, a stroke which paralysed his right side was the announcement of his life ending, which finally happened on 17 February 1854, on the Isle of Man. He is buried in Kirk Braddan cemetery

THE Patomskiy crater

This peculiar rock formation is located at the Bodaibo District, Irkutsk region, Siberia. It is a large mound made of shattered limestone with a base diameter of about 160 metres and its height is 80 metres tall from the lowest point of its base. The cone's crown is ring-shaped, and in its centre there is a smaller mound with a height of about 12metres. The volume of the crater is estimated as 230,000–250,000 cubic metres with a weight of about one million tons.
The crater was discovered in 1949 by Russian geologist Vadim Kolpakov. Its origins have been subject of intense scientific interest, with hypotheses ranging from meteorite impact to volcanic and gaseous origin, however, there is still no conclusion about its origin, and it is estimated to be only 300 to 350 years old. Until recently, many scientists believed that the crater presented a large footprint of an ultra-dense meteorite, which had sunk underground upon impact. Although another hypothesis was that it is a fragment of the Tunguska meteorite which fell in the Krasnoyarsk region in 1908, but whose crater has never been discovered. Others believed that the crater is a result of a breakthrough of a deep pocket of natural gas.

The mysterious crater is also known as the ‘eagle’s nest’.
Scientists previously suggested it was a slagheap, but now think there were not enough people living in the area to create it.
Some people believe it was made by aliens.
Scientists threw out the idea that the mound was made as the result of a uranium ore explosion as the site has low background radiation.
There is a theory that it could have been made by a volcano, but none have been found nearby.
An impact made by a meteorite is the most popular theory, yet no evidence of fragments has been found.
It is thought there is something with a high iron content over 100metres below the crater, which could be a meteorite.
The crater is ‘alive’ and changes shape – by rising and falling – constantly due to the wind, like the sand dunes in Sahara
Trees nearby the site are reported to grow abnormally fast
Animals and insect avoid the area, it seems the crater is only tolerated by surrounding trees.
Local folk insisted the area is possessed by an evil power and would kill anyone who stepped inside.

The painter was born in 1888 in Volos, Greece. His father was a railway engineer and his mother a Genoese noblewoman, and they encouraged the young Giorgio to embrace his artistic passion.
De Chirico lost his father at the age of 17, so the family moved to Munich where he will enrol at the Academy of Fine Arts. It is here where he developed a strong interest in Symbolist artists like German Max Klinger and particularly the Swiss painter Arnold Böcklin. Giorgio also began to study German philosophers like Nietzsche, Schopenhauer, and Weininger. Under the influence of these authors, De Chirico attempted to relate their work to his painting style, seeking to transcend the banal appearances of everyday life and uncover the reality that he believed was concealed beneath.
There were always historical, mythological and philosophical themes in de Chirico's paintings throughout his career. He began his Metaphysical Town Square series with Enigma of an Autumn Afternoon (1909) painted in Florence. From there until 1919, there are reoccurring references to memory loss, mystery, the passing of time, and architecture - particularly arches and towers - in desolate, melancholic squares and cityscapes appearing to be images of depopulated mediterranean cities, in a time beyond history - where everyday life is imbued with mythology.

In 1917, a nervous condition forced him into an Italian hospital, where he continued to work, producing pictures mainly featuring cluttered interiors in the Metaphysical style. In the hospital he met Carlo Carrà, and through their exchanges The Metaphysical art, or pittura metafisica, was born. In early 1919, de Chirico had his first solo show at the Galleria Bragaglia in Rome.
De Chirico also worked on designs for a ballet in Paris based on a short story by the Italian dramatist Luigi Pirandello. He made lithographs for a reproduction of Guillaume Apollinaire's book of poems Calligrammes in 1929. In the same year, he wrote his only novel, Hebdomeros. Despite his artistic change of direction, the book's dream-like collection of impressions and situations functions as a literary companion to his metaphysical paintings.

Tetsuya Ishida - Japan's bleak ripple

The young Tetsuya Ishida at his workshop

Ishida was a Japanese artist born in 1973 in Yaizu, Japan, and mysteriously died at the age of 31 after being hit by a train in 2005 in Tokyo. It is unknown if his death was the cause of an accident or by committing suicide.

His paintings have a Kafkaesque aura reflecting the psychological malaise of growing up in Japan’s “lost decade” of economic turmoil. Most of Ishida’s artwork depict humanoid figures in surreal environments, their faces appear unfazed but reflecting on uncertainty and unease.
“I tried to make myself—my weak self, my pitiful self, my anxious self—into a joke or something funny that could be laughed at,” – He once said.

Ishida had a normal childhood. However, he disliked the authoritarian and oppressive system of the Japanese society and educational system. The artwork called “The Prisoner” depicts this period in his life, where a boy’s body is stuck in a school building, the face’s expression reflects hopelessly and unable to arise.

Ishida fue un artista japonés nacido en 1973 en Yaizu, Japón, y murió misteriosamente a la edad de 31 años después de ser atropellado por un tren en 2005, en Tokio. Se desconoce si su muerte fue a causa de un accidente o si fue un suicidio.

The artist is depicting the daily life in the big Japanese cities, where the contemporary men have no space to develop their own individuality.
Ishida left behind a collection of 180 artworks. His recognition has been significantly increasing even after his death.

The Jade Emperor - Supreme Ruler Of Heaven

This is one of the most important and popular figures in Chinese mythology and is an especially important Daoist deity. He is also known as Yuhuang Shangdi; Yudi or Lord Heaven. He governs the cosmos and resides in a magnificent palace in the highest part of heaven along with his large family and entourage of ministers and officials.

The god originated in ancient Chinese oral mythology but he was officially incorporated into the state-sponsored Chinese religion by Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty after the emperor had claimed to have seen the god in a vision on a particular night in 1007 CE. The Jade Emperor should not be considered a creator god as in Chinese traditional religion no deity is involved in the Creation. Rather, it is believed that the universe came into existence from the union of matter (K‘i) and movement (Li) which, according to the principle of yin and yang, infinitely alternate to produce the five elements of metal, wood, water, fire and earth. Therefore, the supreme god is seen more as an anthropomorphic representation and guardian of morality.
In his palace in heaven, the Jade Emperor lives with his wife the Jade Empress, Tianshang Shengmu or Mazu. Prominent members include his nephew Yang Shen, otherwise known as the Second Lord of Quality, Erlang Shen whose Celestial Dog - Tiangou - chases away evil spirits. One of the Jade Emperor’s secondary wives is the Horse Head goddess, who is believed to care for silkworms, producers of the precious Chinese commodity, silk.
The Jade Emperor's court, with all of its specialized roles and social hierarchies, parallels the structure of ancient Chinese monarchies. His fairness, benevolence, and acts of mercy towards his subjects were meant to serve as an example of what real Chinese emperors should aspire to be like.
Even today, the Jade Emperor plays a significant role in Chinese life, especially around Chinese New Year. During the New Year, the Jade Emperor is said to judge the character of each individual and accordingly award them punishment or reward in the coming year based on their behavior in the previous one.
The Jade Emperor is said to have been a soldier named Zhang Denglai who fought in a bloody civil war during the Zhou Dynasty. During a particularly vicious battle, his entire battalion was wiped out. Denglai woke up in the afterlife to find his commander handing out honorary positions of the celestial court to his soldiers.
In Chinese art, the Jade Emperor is most often portrayed with long hair and moustaches and seated on a throne dressed in full imperial costume - the long, dragon-embroidered robe and mien (hat) with thirteen pearl-strung tassels - and holding the kuei or imperial ceremonial tablet.

Western journey
The journey to the West is one of the most legendary and popular myths in the Chinese canon. It follows the story of a humble Buddhist monk named Tang Sanzang who starts a journey from Southern China to India in order to bring back holy texts to help enlighten his countrymen.

In Journey to the West, the Jade Emperor is mostly involved in the chapters featuring the Monkey King, Sun Wukong. Wukong was once a member of the Jade Emperor's court but was thrown out of heaven and pinned underneath a mountain for 500 years for defying the Emperor's authority. Whereas Wukong is the epitome of jealousy, impatience, and bitterness, the Jade Emperor is a model example of kindness, compassion, and wisdom. After repenting and serving as Sanzang's disciple, Wukong achieves Buddhahood and is accepted back into the Jade Emperor's court.

El viaje occidental es uno de los mitos más legendarios y populares del canon chino. Sigue la historia de un humilde monje budista llamado Tang Sanzang que comienza su viaje desde el sur de China hasta la India para traer los textos sagrados para ayudar a iluminar a sus propios compatriotas.

En esta aventura, el Emperador de Jade participa principalmente en los capítulos que representan al Rey Mono - Sun Wukong. The Zodiac Animals
One day, the Jade Emperor sent a letter to all the animals in his earthly kingdom letting them know that they were invited to meet him at his palace. The animals that would show up were going to be named honorary members of the zodiac.
The Cat, knowing he was the most handsome of them all, was sure that he was guaranteed a spot. However, he was also very lazy and loved to sleep in. The Cat asked his friend, the Rat, to wake him up when it was time to go to the Jade Emperor's palace.
The Rat hadn't been invited to the Jade Emperor's palace and knew that he didn't have a chance of getting a spot in the zodiac since people were disgusted just by his presence. So, he decided that he wouldn't wake the Cat up. Instead, he would just go in his place.
When the Cat woke up the next morning, he yawned and stretched his legs and suddenly realized that it was already well into the afternoon. He looked around for the Rat to ask him why he hadn't woken him up and saw him strolling happily through the streets. The Cat was so angry at the Rat's betrayal that he wanted to kill him and started to chase after him. That's why it's said that cats hunt rats even to this day.

Un día, el Emperador de Jade envió una carta a todos los animales en su reino terrenal para informarles que han sido convocados a su palacio. Los animales que apareciesen serían nombrados miembros honorarios del zodiaco.
El Gato, sabiendo que era el más grácil de todos, estaba seguro de que tenía un lugar garantizado. Sin embargo, también era muy proclive a la ociosidad y le encantaba dormir. Entonces, el Gato le pidió a su amigo, la Rata, que lo despertara cuando llegara el momento de ir al palacio del Emperador de Jade.

ALFRED KUBIN -MASTER OF NIGHTMARES-

Alfred Kubin was born on April 10, 1877, in Leitmeritz, Austro-Hungarian empire (now Litoměřice, Czech Republic) and he was a graphic artist known for his drawings and paintings of nightmares.
Kubin’s mother died when he was only 10 years old, and this shocking moment will only bring him tempestuous thoughts and grim visions during his teenage years. When the artist reached 19 years old, he attempted committing suicide on his mother’s grave with a pistol. He pulled the trigger, but the weapon was in very bad condition failing to shoot the bullet so. Kubin fell under a nervous shock and could not attempt shooting the pistol once more.
In 1898 Alfred went to Munich to study art. As a student, he discovered the works that would become his major influences: the fantastic and morbid prints of the French Symbolist Odilon Redon and of the Belgian painter James Ensor, and the strange and imaginative etchings of the German artist Max Klinger. Kubin’s early drawings were usually executed in an ink-and-wash technique that attempted to emulate the velvety aquatints of Redon and Klinger. He later adopted a more spontaneous-looking drawing style that is often described as “spidery”

La madre de Kubin murió cuando éste tenía sólo 10 años, y este momento solo le traerá pensamientos tempestuosos y visiones sombrías durante su adolescencia. Cuando el artista cumplió 19 años, intentó suicidarse frente a la tumba de su madre con una pistola. Apretó el gatillo, pero el arma estaba en muy malas condiciones; la bala trabó. Kubin cayó bajo un shock nervioso y no pudo volver a intentar el disparo.

In 1902 Kubin had his first exhibition at the Cassirer Gallery in Berlin, and the next year he completed the first of many book illustrations. Later that year Kubin settled at Zwickledt, Austria, where he continued to live for most of his life.
He suffused his works with images of death, of menacing female sexuality, and of various bizarre animals, all of which he depicted in dim light against shadowy backgrounds, evoking a haunting expectation of some sinister turn of events. The nightmarish world Kubin created in his drawings reflects his own inner turmoil; after the attempt of suicide and a mental breakdown in 1903.
Kubin seems to have chosen the books he illustrated—by writers such as Edgar Allan Poe, Oscar Wilde, and Fyodor Dostoyevsky—for their macabre qualities. Kubin also wrote a novel inspired by the death of his father, Die Andere Seite (1909; “The Other Side”), about a dream kingdom dedicated to the rejection of progress—“a place of asylum for those who are disgusted with modern culture.”
Finally, the artist died on August 24, 1959, in Zwickledt, Austria

- His friend Franz Kafka, who admired Kubin as a novelist as well as a visual artist, noted in 1911 that he “looks different in age, size, and strength according to whether he is sitting, standing, wearing just a suit, or an overcoat,” an observation that might be modified to describe Kubin’s varied art as well.
- Kubin’s spidery drawings in a Symbolist mode suggests Goya’s hallucinatory effect as well as the oneiric fantasies of Odilon Redon.
- Kubin’s first love was a dead girl who suddenly died after a swift disease.
- Kubin formed intense friendships with both Paul Klee and Vasily Kandinsky
- What becomes clear in the course of Kubin’s long career is how literary a temperament he was, not only because of implicit narratives in much of his work, illustrative and otherwise. Some of his most arresting images in pen and ink seem to arise from some middle ground between writing and drawing, not calligraphy, exactly, but rather as though typeface had sprouted roots and tendrils and spread like invasive groundcover over the whole expanse.

- Kubin and wife lived in solitary but accompanied by many animals. They’ve even got to own two monkeys, although Kubin killed one after a nervous reaction when giving the monkey a bath.

ALFONS MUCHA: ART NOuVEAU MASTER

Alfons Maria Mucha, (born July 24, 1860, Ivančice, Czech Republic) was an Art Nouveau painter & illustrator noted for his works of fairy soft-dream and theatrical female figures.
Mucha was part of the choir at the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul, Brno in 1871 and over there he received his secondary school education. This was also the place where he had the first glimpse of the richness of Baroque art, but it was few years later in Vienna, where he would be exposed to the buoyant theatrical scene.

Alfons Maria Mucha, (nacido el 24 de julio de 1860 en Ivančice, República Checa) fue un pintor e ilustrador de estilo Art Nouveau que destacó por sus obras donde la figura femenina estaba envuelta en motivos teatrales, de ensoñación y poesía hadada.
Mucha formó parte del coro de la catedral de San Pedro y San Pablo, Brno, en 1871, y fue allí recibió su educación secundaria. Aquí también fue donde vislumbró por primera vez la riqueza del arte barroco, pero fue unos años más tarde, en Viena, donde se vería expuesto a la escena teatral.

Alfons studied art in Prague, Munich, and Paris in the 1880s. it was in the latter city where he became the principal advertiser of the actress Sarah Bernhardt. He designed several posters for theatrical productions featuring Bernhardt, beginning with Gismonda (1894), and he also designed sets and costumes for the actress as well.
Mucha was fascinated with the sensuous aspects of female beauty—luxuriantly flowing strands of hair, heavy-lidded eyes, and full-lipped mouths— The influence of Rossetti is seen in the use of twining and whiplash lines thus imparting refinement to his subjects
The artist visited four times the United States, where he attracted the patronage of Charles Richard Crane, a Chicago industrialist and Slavophile, who commissioned Mucha’s series of 20 large historical paintings illustrating the “Epic of the Slavic People” (1912–30).

Alfons estudió arte en Praga, Munich y París en la década de 1880. Fue en esta última ciudad donde se convirtió en el principal ilustrador de la actriz Sarah Bernhardt. Diseñó varios carteles para las producciones teatrales de Bernhardt, comenzando con Gismonda (1894), y también creo escenarios y disfraces para la actriz.

- He decorated the Hrušovany Emmahof Castle with murals. His patron Count Karl Khuen of Mikulov was so impressed with the works, so he agreed to sponsor Mucha’s formal training at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts
- Bernhardt was so satisfied with the success of this first poster made by Mucha that she started a six-year contract with Mucha.
- He married Maruška Chytilová on 10 June 1906, in Prague.
- Mucha was made a primary target of the Gestalt during the Nazi occupation due to his Slav nationalism and Jewish roots. Note, he was arrested and interrogated, but released after he contracted pneumonia
- The painter finally died due to lung infection in Prague on 14 July 1939. Leaving us an exquisite feminine art concept.

Romania is not only a country known for Vlad the Impaler, but it is also famous for its rich history, local culture, castles, and nature…
On the nature side, there is an enigmatic forest listed among the most haunted and enigmatic places in the world. And it’s often called as "the Bermuda Triangle of Romania”
As mentioned above, The Hoia-Baciu Forest is situated near Cluj-Napoca, Romania and it covers an area of over 250 hectares. The forest has got a big reputation for intense paranormal activity and unexplained events. Reports have included from ghost sightings, unexplained apparitions and sounds, to an intense UFO activity.

Rumania no sólo es un país conocido por Vlad el Empalador -Conde Drácula-, sino que también es famoso por su rica historia, cultura local, castillos y naturaleza... Bajo esta última categoría, existe un bosque particular que se encuentra entre los lugares más encantados y enigmáticos del mundo. Y a menudo se le conoce como el "Triángulo de las Bermudas de Rumania"
El Bosque Hoia-Baciu está situado cerca de Cluj-Napoca, Rumania, y cubre un área de más mayor a 250 hectáreas. The warped trees filling this forest with their skeletal figures twisting and spiraling, making it seem as hypnotised snakes dancing to the flute of eerie silence.
Visitors normally complain of intense anxiety and about the unsettling feeling of being constantly watched.
This dense forest first gained notoriety in the late 1960s when a biologist named Alexandru Sift snapped several amazing photos of a flying disc-shaped object in the sky above the forest. On August 18, 1968, a military technician named Emil Barnea captured a famous photography of a saucer flying over the Hoia-Baciu Forest. In the 1970s, the area was a hotbed for UFO sighting and unexplained lights.

One of the most fascinating stories focused on a 5-year-old girl who wandered into the woods and got lost. The story turns into an extraordinary level when she had been reported emerging from the forest 5 years later, wearing the same untarnished clothes that she wore on the day she disappeared, her body did not age, and she confessed having no memory of what had happened in that interval of time.
This paranormal activity seems to be focused on an inexplicable clearing in the forest that is a vegetation dead zone. It is nearly a perfect circle in the woods where nothing ever grows. Soil samples have been taken from the site and analysed but the results show that there is nothing in the soil that should prevent the growth of plant life.
It is notable to point some electronic devices seem to malfunction when introduced into the forest.
There are people who believe that within Hoia-Baciu there is a portal that provides access to other universes. There are also countless legends and stories about contact with entities outside our known world occurring here every year.
